Apple phone would most likely be the year’s flagship series: the iPhone 14. The iPhone 14 is slated to appear in the fall of 2022 in four different models: the 14, 14 Max, 14 Pro, and 14 Pro Max, with no Mini model. There’s already talk regarding its price, design, and release date. Recently, a new rumor suggests that the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max may receive a larger camera bump to accommodate a 48MP wide camera. So far, other reports include under-display Touch ID, a more robust titanium alloy shell, and a reshuffle of the four-phone lineup with new screen sizes.
Meanwhile, Apple’s latest flagship phone lineup, which includes the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini, as well as the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max (now available in a new green color), has been on the market for quite some time. While we wait for more information about the iPhone 14, here is a comparison of the iPhone 13 and iPhone 12, as well as the iPhone 12 and iPhone 11. In addition, here’s how the iPhone 13 compares to Apple’s previous five iPhone. As additional information becomes available, we will update this article.
Apple iPhone 14 Rumors lineup: Will there still be four phones?
We don’t know much about the iPhone 14, but we’ve heard that Apple’s next lineup will do away with the Mini in favor of larger phones. A July article from Nikkei Asian Review projected the iPhone 14 Mini’s demise, while an April research note received by Mac Rumors from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also suggested the Mini’s demise. However, according to Kuo, the iPhone 14 portfolio would still include four versions, two of which will be “high-end” and “low-end,” with two size options for each.
While name speculation isn’t as relevant to Apple’s 2022 lineup as it was for unlucky 13, reports suggest a slight shift in naming practices, with an iPhone 14, an iPhone 14 Pro, an iPhone 14 Max, and an iPhone 14 Pro Max, with “Pro” denoting higher-end features and “Max” denoting a larger screen size.

Apple iPhone 14 size : Bigger screens for everyone
Apple’s last two iPhone lines used the same 6.1-inch screen size for the base model, increasing to 6.7 inches for the Pro Max. According to the same Nikkei Asian Review rumor from July, Apple will keep these screen sizes for the iPhone 14, but will discontinue the 5.4-inch Mini. This rumor is supported by a recent 9to5Mac store. According to reports, the iPhone 12 Mini sold poorly, so it’ll come as no surprise if Apple retires the small phone in 2022.
Apple iPhone 14 size : Bigger screens for all
In 2020, speculations began to circulate that iPhone would discontinue the use of physical SIM cards entirely, and now a series of leaks suggests that the iPhone 14 may be the first model to do so. 9to5Mac broke down the rumors, which began with a Brazilian website stating the iPhone 15 Pro would be physically SIM-free. Then, according to Mac Rumors, Apple is prepping major carriers for eSIM-only phones by September, based on an anonymous tip. Recently, Apple leaker DylanDKT verified that he was “in agreement” with claims that the tray for physical SIM cards had been eliminated.

Apple iPhone 14 rumors Design: might be notchless or will it?
The week before the iPhone 13 unveiling, YouTuber and iPhone leaker Jon Prosser (whose track record is admittedly patchy) made waves by sharing renders he commissioned of the iPhone 14 Pro Max based on “actual pictures and schematics” leaked to him from supposed Apple sources.
Prosser’s images confirm a number of previously published rumours, including Kuo’s notchless display and hole-punch camera, as well as the iPhone 14 Pro’s titanium alloy body, which was initially mentioned in a July JPMorgan Chase report. We expected the iPhone 13 to be notch-free, but instead we received a slimmed-down, but still very notchy, notch. With the launching of the iPhone X in 2017, Apple introduced the world to the notched display, and although competitors addressed the selfie issue with hole-punch and under-display cameras, Apple hasn’t, well, pulled it down a notch.
However, Prosser’s drawings appear to confirm previous predictions that Apple would finally remove the iPhone’s notch in 2022. In a September edition of his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman anticipated a “total makeover” for the iPhone 14, while Young believes Apple would adopt a hole-and-pill shaped design for the new iPhone. This hole-and-pill display first appeared in schematics on the Chinese social media network Weibo, which Prosser later reposted.
Those who have been hoping for a notchless iPhone since the iPhone 12 and had their expectations dashed yet again by the iPhone 13, can now look forward to the iPhone 14 of 2022 as a possible fruition of their all-screen aspirations. Although it is unclear whether this is the case, A February report from Taiwan Economic Times (via MacRumors) suggests that the design of the iPhone 14 Pro has been completed as it reaches the early phases of manufacturing.
MySmartPrice has shared purported CAD renders of the iPhone 14, displaying a notch. However, renders of the 14 Pro variant published by 91Mobiles the day before show a notchless display. If these reports are true, it appears that you’ll have to upgrade to the Pro to get rid of the notch.

iPhone 14 features and specs
Better battery life
According to a rumour in Taiwan’s Economic Daily News, Apple’s 2022 iPhone could have greater battery life (via MacRumors). This is reported to be due to a new 5G processor, which could potentially give Wi-Fi 6E connectivity to the upcoming iPhone.
Adoption of Wi-Fi 6E
According to a November note from Kuo, which was reported on by 9to5Mac, the iPhone 14 could be equipped with Wi-Fi 6E. However, according to the expert, the components required for Wi-Fi 6E may be in short supply. Wi-Fi 6E is also claimed to be included in Apple’s anticipated VR headset.
A16 processor
Previous rumours suggested that the entire iPhone 14 series would be upgraded to an A16 chip, an improvement above the prior iPhone’s A15 chip, in keeping with Apple’s previous trend. However, earlier this month, Kuo projected that the A16 will only be found in the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, while the 14 and 14 Max will continue to use the A15.
120Hz ProMotion display
Apple’s ProMotion display, which is now available only on the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max models, could be included in all iPhone 14 models. ProMotion increases the refresh rate of the screen to 120Hz for smoother performance. This is more speculation than rumour, as it is predicated on changes in Apple’s supply chain that would make it easier for the corporation to offer the functionality across its next generation of products.
Young, on the other hand, believes that Apple will continue to sell ProMotion displays only on its Pro models. According to the analyst, Chinese manufacturer BOE would be one of Apple’s LTPO OLED display suppliers, although the firm does not currently have a huge production capacity.
5G network connectivity
Apple added 5G connectivity to its iPhone 12 series and, predictably, included it in the iPhone 13. There’s no reason to think we won’t see 5G-capable iPhone 14s as well. According to a July article from Nikkei Asian Review, Apple will “go all in on 5G” in 2022.
MagSafe Accessories
MagSafe, like 5G, was added to the iPhone with the 2020 iPhone 12 series. One of our favourite iPhone 12 features was the snap-on, magnetic accessories, which included wallets, power packs, and chargers. The iPhone 13 is also MagSafe compatible, and we anticipate that Apple’s next generation of phones will be as well.
Satellite connectivity
According to Bloomberg, one 11th-hour iPhone 13 rumour from Kuo that did not come to fruition was the addition of satellite connectivity, which would allow users to send text messages through satellite in locations without cellular coverage, at least in emergency scenarios. Satellite connectivity isn’t available in the iPhone 13 series, but that could imply it’ll be available in the iPhone 14.
