Pros and Cons
In the webcam market, the Elgato Facecam MK2 nicely closes a gap. Elgato is focusing more on content creators who do not currently require high-end resolutions as more 4K options become available at exorbitant price points. Thanks to software improvements, the MK2 has many of the fantastic features of the earlier Facecams, making it a worthy upgrade.
Pros
- 1080p 60fps or 720p 120fps video
- HDR dual exposure setting
- Sturdy low-profile mounting
- Software is intuitive
Cons

- HDR images often look gloomy

The quality Must buy!!! –
I expected nothing but greatness and this camera did not disappoint. I currently own the Elgato Facecam and love it but I must say the image quality is one of the best I’ve ever seen in a webcam thus far Don’t forget there is a face-tracking effect that comes with the camera!!! This camera is a MUST-HAVE! if you want an affordable Webcam for starters this is your only option. Highly recommend it.

The quality is shockingly great –
I expected this Mk. 2 webcam to look a little washed out in some areas, but it stood up to my Sony Alpha Mirrorless camera, in some aspects, it made the Sony Alpha fall short. The image quality is the best I’ve ever seen in a webcam. I’m very impressed with this version of the facecam.
*** if you use it for OBS, MAKE SURE you go to camera settings in OBS and manually select custom and 1920 x 1080 for the resolution. You won’t regret it, thank you Elgato! *Clint* United States on March 31, 2024
Very nice mid-level cam –
I’ve been using a Logitech Streamcam since its release and have mostly liked it. It works great in good conditions, but shifted to a more enclosed area with very little natural lighting. And ever since doing that, I’ve had trouble with it washing out the picture if there’s artificial light, or being too dark if there’s not. I have a mostly Elgato lighting set up (2 key lights and a light strip) as well as a stream deck. The Logitech has never had good software, but that wasn’t a big deal until recently.
Given the streamcam was good enough. I am teach undergraduate and graduate students almost entirely online, so I wasn’t needing a professional setup, just for meetings, zoom, and recording videos (using xsplit with a small video of me in the corner of a presentation). Recently, the lighting frustration bothered me more and more and I saw this Mk.2 release. I decided to try it out and see if it was an improvement. PatrickO United States on April 14, 2024
Should you buy the Elgato Facecam MK2?
The Elgato Facecam MK2 Build is a very impressive webcam. Excellent build quality, complete internal hardware specifications, user-friendly software, and a reasonable pricing point of £149.99/$149.99 considering the features are all included. For the moment, getting the most out of it might just require a little manual wrestling.
The Elgato Facecam MK2 has undergone significant changes during my testing, and as more units are deployed and more data is gathered, I anticipate that these changes will only get better. I would, for the time being, ignore the automated settings and take a few minutes to manually adjust everything in order to get the best possible picture from your equipment, because when you find the sweet spot, the Facecam MK2 can look great.
