Google Pixel 7 Pro: Google has upgraded its game with the new Pixels, delivering phones that have made us sit up and take attention – even beyond their photography prowess. The Google Pixel 7 Pro introduces numerous new features and significant improvements over the previous Pixel 6 Pro.
It improves on the Pixel 6 Pro’s design language while providing the power of the second generation Tensor chip and some outstanding software capabilities.
We remark in our Pixel 7 Pro review that the camera alone makes this a fantastic phone. It includes a 50MP main camera, a 48MP telephoto lens with a new “pro level zoom” that amplifies distant subjects, and a third ultra wide lens.
Google hasn’t expanded the gap between the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro as much as Apple has with its iPhone 14 lineup this year. However, some of the more subtle improvements, such as an additional telephoto camera, increased battery life, RAM, and a larger display, are reserved for the Pro model. It is $300 more expensive than the Pixel 7, costing $899 / £849 / AU$1,299 for 128GB of storage.
I’ve been using the Pixel 7 Pro for about three weeks and have some views on some of the phone’s strengths and weaknesses. Google has ended pre-orders and the phone is now available for purchase. 5 REASONS TO BUY THE GOOGLE PIXEL 7 PRO
1- Camera capabilities
With its Pixels, Google promises one of the best photography phones every year, and this time, the tech giant manages to knock our socks off with its triple of cameras and features on the Pixel 7 Pro. The 50MP lens clearly highlights this phone’s camera ability. I captured some stunning sunsets with hues that were both vibrant and realistic.
The 48MP telephoto lens includes a new 5X optical zoom that allows you to focus on subjects that are quite far away with great clarity. The 12MP extremely wide lens is similar to the one seen on the Pixel 6 Pro last year, but it now boasts autofocus and a field of view of 125.8 degrees, as well as a new Macro Focus mode that turns the camera into a macro lens.
The wonder of computational photography raises the bar for camera hardware. The Tensor G2 contributes to quicker Night Sight, better Super Res Zoom, and a Face Unblur function. When taking a low-light snap, I discovered that I didn’t have to hold the phone steady for as long as the camera software brightened the image.
In terms of video, the Pixel 7 Pro can capture 4K movies at 60 frames per second and has included Cinematic Blur for an aesthetic blur in videos as well as Active Stabilization, which works great for on-the-go recordings and gives Apple’s Action Mode a run for its money.
2- Bright and stunning OLED display
The Pixel 7 Pro’s display is one of my favourite features. A huge 6.7-inch OLED screen with Quad HD Plus quality is provided. The stunning display is perfect for watching videos and is also extremely bright. It has a max brightness of 1500 nits. While using the phone in daylight, I noticed that the text on the screen was legible even at full brightness.
It is not the brightest display on the market, but it compares favourably to the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, which boasts a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with a peak brightness of 1,750 nits. With 2,000 nits, the iPhone 14 Pro edges out the competition.
3- Premium design
Google hasn’t changed the appearance of the Pixel 7 Pro, yet it still feels incredibly premium. If you’re going to spend $899 on a device, you want it to be both that and sturdy.
The cameras are neatly placed in a horizontal polished aluminium strip that runs around the rear. The new Hazel colour is subtle and appealing, and the phone’s corners are smooth and supple. I appreciate the phone’s ceramic-like silkiness, yet it is somewhat slippery to operate without a cover. Without a cover, the aluminium bar is also prone to scratches.
Overall, this is a nice-looking phone that stands out among the greatest Android phones.
4- Affordable price tag
Despite all of this year’s enhancements, Google has not raised the price of the Pixel 7 Pro. The starting price of $899 is reasonable for a professional phone, and when compared to competitors such as Samsung and Apple, the Pixel 7 Pro provides the best value for money.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra costs $1,199 for 128GB of storage, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max costs $1,099 for the same amount. The Pixel 7 Pro has excellent cameras, including a telescopic lens, smart features, and adequate performance to justify its high price.
5- Impressive telephoto lens
The Pixel 7 Pro’s second telephoto lens deserves its own section in this guide. The 48MP telephoto camera features a new Super Res Zoom mode that employs optical performance and the Tensor G2 technology to capture clear images of distant scenes. The Pixel 7 Pro includes a 5X optical zoom, but when combined with digital zoom, it can achieve up to 30X zoom.
Moving beyond 2X, however, you will get photographs at 12.5MP rather than 48MP, which has no effect on image quality.

1- Below average battery life
The Pixel 7 Pro’s primary disadvantage is its poor battery life. And, after using it as my daily car for the past few weeks, it did let me down in this regard.
Google has given the Pixel 7 Pro a 5,000 mAh battery, which is hardly an upgrade from the Pixel 6 Pro, but I expected Tensor G2 to help with power economy, which was also one of our main problems with last year’s Pixel.
With adaptive mode enabled, the Pixel 7 Pro lasted only 8 hours and 4 minutes on average in our tests. That’s far faster than the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s 10:18 and the iPhone 14 Pro Max’s 13:39.
In my testing, I discovered that the Pixel 7 Pro has adequate durability. Throughout the day, I used it for emails, social networking, and some videos, and I had enough energy left in the evening to use Google Maps on my phone to acquire groceries. However, I had to charge the phone or use the battery saver mode after that.
The wired charger, on the other hand, charges the phone quickly. The Pixel 7 Pro can support up to 30W of connected power, which is more than Apple’s 20W.
2- Limited software support
With the Pixel 7 Pro, Google offers five years of security patches but just three years of software updates. This suggests that the Pixel 7 Pro will be discontinued in 2025. While three years used to be the standard for Android software upgrades, Samsung lifted the bar by providing four years of software updates for its flagship handsets such as the Galaxy S and Galaxy Z series, as well as some Galaxy A phones.
Given that Google created the Android operating system, we wish the corporation will change their software strategy to be more generous with Pixel upgrades.
