Star Trek Strange New Worlds Season 2 is now available on Paramount+ and Amazon Prime video. Everything you need to know about Captain Pike’s new voyages is right here.

Here’s all you need to know about Star Trek Strange New Worlds season 2. Strange New Worlds season 1 has a 99% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the most well-reviewed Star Trek efforts in recent years. Strange New Worlds’ episodic approach has been a breath of fresh air, allowing the program to tell all kinds of Star Trek storylines while establishing its winning cast of characters, which includes Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romjin as Number One, and Ethan Peck as Lt. Spock. Strange New Worlds season 2 begins on Paramount+ in the United States on Thursday, June 15th.

Strange New Worlds’ season one finale ended on a dramatic cliffhanger that could permanently change Captain Pike’s USS Enterprise: the arrest of Number One, as Commander Una Chin-Riley, for lying to Starfleet about being a genetically modified Illyrian. Furthermore, the Strange New Worlds conclusion introduced one of Star Trek’s greatest icons, Captain James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley), paving the way for his Strange New Worlds season 2 return as the younger Lt. Kirk. Here’s everything you need to know about Star Trek Strange New Worlds season 2 in terms of news, updates, casting, and story elements.

Strange New Worlds Season 2 Episode Titles & Release Dates

The entire cast of Star Trek Strange New Worlds is returning for season 2, including Anson Mount as Captain Pike, Ethan Peck as Lt. Spock, Rebecca Romijn as Number One AKA Commander Una Chin-Riley, Christina Chong as Lt. La’an Noonien Singh, Celia Rose Gooding as Ensign Nyota Uhura, Melissa Navia as Lt. Erica Ortegas, Jess Bush as Nurse Christine Chapel, and Babs Olusanmokun as Dr. Joseph M’Benga. In Strange New Worlds season 2, Uhura has been noticeably promoted from Starfleet Cadet to Ensign while continuing to serve on the Starship Enterprise.

Paul Wesley, who will play Lt. James T. Kirk, and Carol Kane, who plays Commander Pelia, the Enterprise’s new Chief Engineer, are the two newest cast members for Strange New Worlds season 2. The recurring character of Lt. Sam Kirk, played by Dan Jeannotte, is also back. He might not be pleased to see his younger brother Jim on the Enterprise.

Additionally, Adrian Holmes reprises his role as Admiral Robert April, Melanie Scrofano is back as Captain Batel, Captain Pike’s lover, Gia Sandhu is back as T’Pring, Spock’s Vulcan fiancée. Bruce Horak is also expected to make a comeback as a new character following Chief Engineer Hemmer’s honorable demise in Strange New Worlds season 1, episode 9, “All Those Who Wander.” Yetide Badaki also appears in Strange New Worlds season 2 as Number One’s defense attorney during her Starfleet court-martial.

Chief Jay, portrayed by Noah Lamanna, is yet another brand-new character for Strange New Worlds season 2. Nothing about their personality has come out thus far. Chief Jay might take Chief Kyle’s (Andre Dae Kim) place as the Enterprise’s Transporter Chief. Adelaide Kane, best known for her work on Grey’s Anatomy, has also been cast in one episode of Strange Worlds season 2, though it is unclear what her role will be. The Starship Enterprise itself may be the most significant “character” in Strange New Worlds, as it receives a new bar in season 2 for the crew to hang out in.

Star Trek Strange New Worlds season 2 will settle the cliffhanger from season 1 as well as two important exits from the Starship Enterprise in order to bring both Number One and Lt. La’an Noonien-Singh, who resigned her Starfleet commission, back aboard. Una’s trial will take place in Strange New Worlds season 2, episode 2, “Ad Astra Per Aspera,” and no matter how her rights as a genetically created Illyrian turn out, Number One will assume her place as the Enterprise’s First Officer once more.

The Strange New Worlds season 2 trailer revealed a lot about what to expect in the next ten episodes. The Klingons, as opposed to how they were depicted in Star Trek: Discovery, return in their classic Star Trek: The Next Generation form and drink blood wine with Spock.

Kirk and La’an are sent out on a mission, and Jim may fall in love with the descendent of his greatest foe, Khan Noonien Singh (Ricardo Montalban). Strange New Worlds co-showrunner Akiva Goldman, on the other hand, revealed that Lt. Kirk is dating Carol Marcus, which sets up Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Ensign Uhura also had her first meeting with James Kirk, and the similarly historic canonical first meeting between Kirk and Spock will also take place in New Worlds season 2.

In Strange New Worlds season 2, Spock enjoys a passionate kiss with Nurse Christine Chapel (Jess Bush), which may lead to the breakup of his engagement to T’Pring. Strange New Worlds season 2 will also dive into the backstories of Nurse Chapel and Dr. Joseph M’Benga.

Finally, Lt. Erica Ortegas’s backstory will be examined, including how the Enterprise’s hotshot helmsman was a battle veteran, presumably from Star Trek: Discovery’s Klingon battle. In Strange New Worlds season 2, we’ll witness how new Chief Engineer Pelia fits into the Enterprise, as well as plenty of character growth and intrigue.

Strange New Worlds Is Crossing Over With Star Trek: Lower Decks

The crossover with Star Trek: Lower Decks is one of the most anticipated events in Strange New Worlds season 2. The crossover, directed by Jonathan Frakes, takes place in Strange New Worlds season 2 episode 7 titled “Those Old Scientists.” The title is a joke from Season 1 of Lower Decks that explains what the “TOS” designation means in Star Trek fiction.

Lower Decks performers Jack Quaid and Tawny Newsome will play their cartoon series Ensigns, Bradward Boimler and Beckett Mariner, in the crossover episode. Frakes describes the crossover as a “flat-out comedy” and promises animated moments in the episode, which incorporates dialogue written by Lower Decks author Mike McMahan.

The crossover between Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Lower Decks was announced at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con, and it’s one of the creative “big swings” showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers plan for season 2.

Perhaps even “bigger swings” are the Strange New Worlds season 2 episodes 9 and 10, which the actors and creative team are keeping quiet about but imply are even wilder than the Lower Decks crossover. After all is said and done, it’s unlikely that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 will lack audacity.
